The 2012 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru feels a little simple on the nose following on from the Mazoyères-Chambertin 2012 from Maume-Tawse, without the same degree of complexity and nuance. There are some decent rustic red fruit here, but they need more delineation. The palate is much better than the aromatics with feisty black and red fruit and quite firm tannins, though it does not quite deliver the necessary nuance and tension on the somewhat sinewy finish. I strongly suspect that another two or three years will see an amelioration in this wine since it gains finesse in the glass over the course of ten minutes. |
