A wine ebbing towards funky but tangoes tiptoe on just this side of playing by the rules. And this wine plays. Picks a bay leaf, rolls it, palm folded, unpalms, folds in sour cherries, a cannabis leaf, sets it on fire. Blows the smoke – sweet-fragrant, heady, opiate green – into your face. Laughs, quietly. This wine may have a wicked streak, but nothing about it is loud. It's a whispering late-night wine that smells of rosemary bushes in the moonlight, of midnight-blue sky in summer when the air shimmers with the volatile life of leaves. (TC) |
