The 2021 Pierre Boisson Auxey-Duresses is a Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune, produced by Pierre Boisson, one of Burgundy's most respected small-scale growers. Based in Meursault, Pierre Boisson has developed a strong following among collectors for wines that emphasize purity, precision and terroir expression. Production remains limited, and the domaine's wines are increasingly sought after for their combination of traditional winemaking and exceptional vineyard sourcing. Auxey-Duresses lies immediately west of Meursault, sharing many of the same limestone-rich soils and cool hillside exposures that have made its famous neighbour a benchmark for Chardonnay. Historically overshadowed by surrounding appellations, Auxey-Duresses has gained increasing recognition for producing white wines that combine freshness, mineral tension and Burgundian complexity while maintaining a distinctive identity of its own. The 2021 vintage was marked by a cooler growing season and significantly reduced yields, resulting in wines of remarkable freshness and aromatic definition. The wine opens with aromas of lemon zest, green apple and white peach, complemented by notes of white flowers, crushed stone and subtle hazelnut. On the palate, it is vibrant and finely structured, with bright acidity supporting a core of citrus and orchard fruit. The limestone-driven minerality provides focus and tension, leading to a long, precise and saline finish. Pierre Boisson's wines have become increasingly admired for their understated style and ability to age gracefully. The cool and classical nature of the 2021 vintage further enhances the wine's sense of balance and terroir transparency, making it an excellent example of modern white Burgundy rooted in traditional values. |
