The 2022 Comando G Rozas is a village-level Garnacha from the Sierra de Gredos, produced by the acclaimed partnership of Fernando García and Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi under the Comando G label. Widely credited with transforming international perceptions of Garnacha, Comando G has become one of Spain's most influential wineries, focusing on high-altitude vineyards, old vines and transparent expressions of terroir. Sourced from old-vine Garnacha vineyards around the village of Rozas de Puerto Real, the wine is grown at elevations of approximately 900 to 1,000 metres above sea level on granite-based soils. These conditions produce a markedly different style of Garnacha from those found in warmer regions of Spain, emphasizing freshness, floral aromatics and mineral precision rather than weight and power. The 2022 vintage displays aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, layered with notes of rose petal, mountain herbs and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and remarkably energetic, with bright acidity supporting a core of vibrant red fruit. Fine-grained tannins and a distinct granite-derived mineral character contribute to a long, elegant finish. Village wines such as Rozas have become an important part of Comando G's portfolio, highlighting the unique identity of individual villages within the Sierra de Gredos. Compared with La Bruja de Rozas, Rozas generally offers greater depth, complexity and site expression, while remaining more approachable than the estate's highly sought-after single-vineyard bottlings |
