The 2022 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Morgeot Rouge is a Pinot Noir from one of the most respected estates in Burgundy. While Domaine Ramonet is best known for its legendary white wines, the estate also produces a small number of highly regarded reds that showcase the often-overlooked potential of Chassagne-Montrachet for Pinot Noir. The domaine's meticulous vineyard work and traditional winemaking approach have earned it a reputation as one of the benchmark producers of the Côte de Beaune. Morgeot is among the largest and most important Premier Cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet. Although famous for white wine, portions of the vineyard are exceptionally well suited to Pinot Noir, thanks to clay-limestone soils that provide both structure and finesse. Wines from Morgeot Rouge often combine the aromatic elegance of the Côte de Beaune with a depth and concentration that distinguish them from many village-level reds. The warm and balanced 2022 vintage produced fruit of excellent ripeness while retaining freshness and precision. The wine opens with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, layered with notes of rose petal, baking spice, forest floor and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and silky, with vibrant acidity supporting a core of pure red fruit. Fine-grained tannins provide structure, while the limestone-rich terroir contributes freshness and mineral complexity. The finish is long, refined and persistent. |
