The 2022 Roc Breïa Pinot Noir is a Pinot Noir from the Mâconnais, produced by Théo Dancer, one of Burgundy's most closely watched young winemakers. Roc Breïa is a separate project established by Dancer to explore the potential of old-vine vineyards in the northern Mâconnais, applying the same meticulous vineyard and cellar practices that have earned his family estate in Chassagne-Montrachet a cult following among Burgundy collectors. The estate comprises approximately 10 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, with Pinot Noir vines planted between 1970 and 1985 on clay-limestone soils.

The wine is sourced from old-vine Pinot Noir vineyards in the village of Bray. Fermentation includes approximately 50% whole clusters, followed by ageing in used 500-litre oak barrels. The winemaking philosophy is intentionally minimalist, with limited intervention, low sulphur use and a focus on preserving vineyard character rather than emphasizing oak influence.

The 2022 vintage opens with aromas of red cherry, plum and wild raspberry, layered with notes of sweet spice, dried flowers and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and energetic, combining ripe fruit with fresh acidity and fine, powdery tannins. The clay-limestone soils contribute structure and mineral definition, while the whole-cluster component adds aromatic lift and complexity. The finish is long, savoury and finely balanced.

Roc Breïa has attracted significant attention because it offers a glimpse into Théo Dancer's winemaking philosophy outside the Côte de Beaune.
