The NV Benoît Déhu La Rue des Noyers Extra Brut is a single-vineyard grower Champagne produced by Benoît Déhu, one of the most respected artisan producers in the Vallée de la Marne. After working at Bollinger and within his family's Champagne estate, Déhu established his own domaine focused on biodynamic farming, low-intervention winemaking and the expression of individual vineyard sites. Production remains extremely limited, and his wines have become highly sought after among collectors of grower Champagne. La Rue des Noyers is the estate's flagship vineyard, a small parcel planted predominantly to Pinot Meunier in the village of Fossoy. The site is farmed biodynamically and worked entirely by hand. Unlike many Champagnes that blend fruit from multiple villages and vintages, this cuvée is designed to showcase the identity of a single vineyard, reflecting both its terroir and the growing season. Fermentation and ageing take place in oak barrels, adding texture and complexity without overwhelming the fruit. The wine opens with aromas of orchard fruit, preserved lemon and citrus peel, complemented by notes of white flowers, toasted bread, hazelnut and wet stone. On the palate, it is precise and layered, with a fine mousse supporting flavours of pear, apple and subtle spice. Extended lees ageing contributes depth and texture, while the restrained Extra Brut dosage preserves freshness and highlights the wine's mineral character. The finish is long, saline and remarkably focused. |
