Barbacàn is one of the most respected artisanal producers in Valtellina, Lombardy, founded by brothers Luca and Matteo De Stefani in the village of San Giacomo di Teglio. The estate farms tiny, steep terraced vineyards supported by traditional dry-stone walls, many planted with old Chiavennasca (the local name for Nebbiolo) vines. Working organically with minimal intervention, Barbacàn ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages its wines with little or no new oak, allowing the alpine terroir to take centre stage. The winery has become a benchmark producer for elegant, terroir-driven expressions of Valtellina.

Pale salmon pink in colour, the 2020 Rosato offers lifted aromas of wild strawberry, redcurrant, rose petal and fresh alpine herbs. Subtle hints of bergamot, wet stone and smoky earth add complexity. The palate is crisp and finely textured, combining juicy red berry fruit with citrus freshness and delicate tea-like tannins inherited from Nebbiolo. A distinctive mineral backbone and lively acidity lead to a long, savoury finish marked by smoky earth and fresh mountain herbs. It is an elegant, food-friendly rosé that reflects the freshness and precision of Valtellina's high-altitude vineyards.
