Tenuta San Guido is one of Italy's most iconic wine estates and the birthplace of the original Super Tuscan, Sassicaia. Situated in Bolgheri on Tuscany's Mediterranean coast, the estate was established by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta in the 1940s and revolutionised Italian winemaking by successfully cultivating Bordeaux varieties outside the traditional DOC system. Today, the estate is managed by the Incisa della Rocchetta family and remains one of Italy's most prestigious producers. Introduced in 2002, Le Difese is the estate's most approachable red, combining Cabernet Sauvignon with Sangiovese to express the freshness and elegance of Tuscany while reflecting the pedigree of Tenuta San Guido.

Le Difese is a medium-bodied Toscana IGT blend of approximately 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese. Each variety is fermented separately in stainless steel before blending and ageing for around 12 months in French and American oak barriques, primarily previously used for Guidalberto. The Cabernet Sauvignon contributes cassis, structure and depth, while the Sangiovese adds bright acidity, red fruit and aromatic lift. The result is a polished, fruit-forward Tuscan red that is approachable in its youth yet capable of developing over several years.

Deep ruby red in colour with an expressive bouquet of blackberry, blackcurrant, ripe cherry and wild plum, complemented by notes of sliced mushrooms, liquorice, bergamot, Mediterranean herbs and subtle sweet spice. The palate is juicy and well-balanced, offering layers of dark berry fruit, redcurrant and plum framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Hints of tobacco, earth and cedar emerge on the persistent finish, which is creamy, fresh and elegantly proportioned. The combination of Cabernet Sauvignon's richness and Sangiovese's brightness makes for a refined and versatile Tuscan red.
