The Frescobaldi family has been producing wine in Tuscany for more than 700 years and is one of Italy's most historic and respected wine dynasties. Castello Pomino, located in the hills east of Florence within the Pomino DOC, was acquired by the family in the 19th century and is renowned for pioneering the cultivation of French grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco in Tuscany. Situated at elevations of up to 700 metres above sea level, the estate benefits from a cool Alpine-influenced climate that produces elegant, aromatic white wines with remarkable freshness and minerality. Pomino was also one of Italy's earliest appellations, receiving DOC status in 1983. A refined dry white blend produced predominantly from Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, with small quantities of complementary varieties. The grapes are gently pressed before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a small portion fermented in French oak barriques to add texture and complexity. The wine is then matured partially in wood before bottle ageing, resulting in a vibrant, mineral-driven style that balances crisp acidity with subtle creaminess. It has a straw yellow colour. The nose opens with intense floral aromas of frangipani and jasmine, enriched with fruity hints of apricot, quince and tropical fruit, followed by cardamom. On the palate it is savory and harmonious, with a pleasant aftertaste of ripe raspberry. Suitable as an aperitif, it is perfect with vegetable appetisers and with all fish dishes. Vegetarian and Vegan Friendly. " Elegant and harmonious, showing white flowers, apple, lemon cake and stony minerality with a lingering, chalky finish. Drink now through 2027 " -- Wine Spectator |
