Tenuta Guado al Tasso is one of the flagship estates of Marchesi Antinori, one of Italy's oldest and most distinguished wine families, whose winemaking history dates back to 1385. Situated in the prestigious Bolgheri DOC on Tuscany's Tyrrhenian coast, the 320-hectare estate lies within the renowned "Bolgheri Amphitheatre", where maritime breezes, abundant sunshine and alluvial soils create ideal conditions for both international and indigenous grape varieties. While Guado al Tasso is celebrated worldwide for its iconic Bolgheri Superiore, the estate's Vermentino has become a benchmark expression of the variety, capturing the freshness, minerality and Mediterranean character of the coastal terroir. Produced from 100% Vermentino, the wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to preserve its vibrant aromatics and purity of fruit. The 2021 growing season was characterised by a dry summer tempered by ample winter rainfall and cooling sea breezes, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness. The resulting wine is dry, light- to medium-bodied and expressive, combining bright citrus fruit with saline minerality and crisp acidity. It is an excellent match for shellfish, grilled fish, seafood pasta and Mediterranean cuisine. The 2021 Guado al Tasso Vermentino displays a pale straw-yellow colour with green highlights. The bouquet is aromatic and inviting, revealing notes of lemon zest, grapefruit, white blossom and tropical fruits, complemented by subtle Mediterranean herbs. The palate is fresh, lively and well-balanced, with flavours of citrus, ripe orchard fruits and a distinct saline mineral character. Bright acidity provides energy and precision, while the finish is long, clean and pleasantly citrus-driven, reflecting the influence of Bolgheri's coastal climate. " Fresh and vibrant with citrus, white peach and mineral notes, showing excellent balance and persistence. " -- James Suckling |
