Tenuta Perano is one of the flagship estates of the historic Marchesi Frescobaldi family, whose winemaking heritage spans more than 700 years in Tuscany. Located in Gaiole in Chianti, at elevations between 500 and 600 metres above sea level, the estate occupies a natural amphitheatre with south-southwest-facing vineyards that maximise sunlight while benefiting from cool mountain breezes. This unique combination of altitude, exposure and well-drained soils produces Sangiovese with exceptional aromatic intensity, vibrant acidity and refined tannins. Since acquiring the estate in 2014, Frescobaldi has established Tenuta Perano as a benchmark for contemporary Chianti Classico, combining traditional Tuscan character with precision and elegance. Predominantly Sangiovese with small proportions of traditional complementary varieties, the 2023 is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with careful skin maceration to extract colour and fine tannins. The wine is matured for 12 months in a combination of French oak barriques and stainless steel before further bottle ageing. Medium- to full-bodied, it combines vibrant red fruit, floral aromatics and polished tannins with freshness derived from the estate's high-altitude vineyards. Brilliant ruby red in colour. The nose is expressive and fruit-driven, led by sour cherry, red cherry and mixed red and black berries, complemented by classic floral notes of violet and delicate spice reminiscent of black pepper and clove. On the palate, the wine is smooth and fresh, with well-defined tannins that will become increasingly refined with bottle age. Bright acidity supports the vibrant fruit, while the finish is balanced, persistent and elegant, showcasing the purity and finesse of Sangiovese from Gaiole in Chianti. |
