Domaine Pernot Belicard is a small estate based in Puligny-Montrachet, producing wines across several prestigious Premier Cru and village appellations of the Côte de Beaune including Puligny-Montrachet and its Premier Crus, Meursault and the prestigious Les Perrières Premier Cru. The domaine is a traditional family estate that has built its reputation through meticulous vineyard management and a conservative approach to winemaking that prioritises site expression over stylistic intervention. Les Perrières, which translates as ‘the stone quarries,’ is widely considered the finest Premier Cru in Meursault, with some commentators noting that its wines at their best can rival the quality of Grand Cru Burgundy. The Meursault Les Perrières Premier Cru is divided between Perrières-Dessus (the upper parcels, shallower soils, steeper inclines) and Perrières-Dessous (the lower parcels, deeper soils, more generous character), and Domaine Pernot Belicard holds its parcel in the Perrières-Dessous section, on the small stone and chalky limestone soils that give this climate its distinctive mineral precision and terroir fingerprint. The 2019 vintage in Meursault was warm and generously ripe, producing wines of excellent concentration and opulent texture while retaining the natural acidity that Perrières’ deep limestone subsoil consistently provides even in warmer years. Les Perrières has produced some of the most celebrated white Burgundies of the past decade across multiple domaines, from the legendary Coche-Dury and Roulot versions to the rising productions of younger estates. The Pernot Belicard version occupies a position within this competitive field as a well-sourced, carefully vinified expression of one of Meursault’s most important Premier Crus, without the extreme scarcity and secondary market pricing that attaches to the site’s most celebrated producers. For collectors who seek access to the Perrières terroir at a reasonable acquisition cost, this is a serious and honest option from a traditional Puligny family domaine. Pale gold with an intensely mineral and complex nose of lemon, toasted hazelnuts, white flowers, crushed stone and the distinctive saline austerity of the Perrières site. Full-bodied on the palate with excellent concentration, taut limestone acidity and a very long, mineral finish of Grand Cru-adjacent quality. Best from 2025 through 2035. |
