The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, from vines planted in 1930/1931, comprises of two barrels this year. The nose was closed when we met, broody blackcurrant and blueberry scents, a bit reduced. The palate is more expressive with fine tannins, shimmering black fruit, orange zest and Asian spices. This builds in the mouth and fans out, whereas other Bonnes-Mares have come across as relatively skinny. This could turn out to be one of the best from this Grand Cru. (NM) - Vinous Note: from a .123 ha parcel of 80+ year old vines situated mostly in terres blanches; about 600 bottles are produced each year This is the only wine in the range to exhibit any reduction and here it's enough to dominate the fruit. There is excellent punch, power, size and weight to the big-bodied and muscular flavors that terminate in a balanced and impressively long finale that could again use better depth. - Burghound
