Viñedo Chadwick is Chile’s most internationally celebrated single-vineyard red wine, produced by Eduardo Chadwick from a 13-hectare Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley, the original polo field of the Chadwick family estate. The wine made global headlines when the 2000 vintage won a blind tasting in Berlin in 2004, defeating first-growth Bordeaux and Super Tuscans from the same vintage. Since then, Viñedo Chadwick has established itself firmly among the world’s most critically respected Cabernet Sauvignon expressions, receiving scores of 92-97/100 from approved publications across its range of recent vintages and confirming the Maipo Valley’s capacity for producing Cabernet Sauvignon of genuine international stature alongside any other great Cabernet region. The 2009 represents a mature and developed expression of this wine at over fifteen years from harvest, in a growing season that the wine-searcher aggregate of 92/100 confirms as solid though not exceptional for the estate relative to more recent vintages. The 2009 Maipo Valley growing season produced wines of good concentration and classical structure from Chile’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon valley, and Viñedo Chadwick’s meticulous approach of low yields, careful canopy management and precise harvest timing ensured that even in a year without exceptional conditions, the wine reflects the specific mineral, graphite and cassis character of the Puente Alto terroir with the clarity and precision that defines this estate’s approach. At fifteen or more years from harvest, the 2009 will have developed the secondary complexity and integration that Cabernet Sauvignon of this quality consistently achieves in its second decade. A 2009 Viñedo Chadwick is a compelling proposition for collectors who seek a mature expression of Chile’s most acclaimed estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon: a wine of good vintage quality and documented provenance, now at the peak stage of its development arc, from the vineyard that placed Chilean fine wine on the global map. |
