The NV Françoise Bedel Origin'elle Extra-Brut is a distinctive grower Champagne from the Vallée de la Marne, produced by one of the region's pioneering biodynamic estates. Françoise Bedel is widely recognised for her holistic approach to viticulture, working in harmony with the rhythms of nature to produce wines that emphasize vineyard expression, vitality and authenticity. Based in the village of Crouttes-sur-Marne, the estate farms vineyards planted predominantly to Meunier, a grape variety particularly well suited to the clay-rich soils of the area. Origin'elle serves as an introduction to the house style, blending multiple vintages to create a Champagne that balances consistency with complexity. Fermentation and ageing are carried out with minimal intervention, allowing the character of the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront. The wine displays aromas of ripe orchard fruits, baked apple and pear, layered with notes of citrus zest, honey, dried flowers and freshly baked brioche. Extended lees ageing contributes additional texture and complexity, while the Extra-Brut dosage preserves freshness and precision. On the palate, it is broad yet energetic, combining generous fruit with vibrant acidity and a subtle mineral backbone. The predominance of Meunier gives the wine a distinctive richness and expressive fruit profile, while the estate's biodynamic practices contribute to its sense of depth and individuality. The result is a Champagne that offers both immediate appeal and considerable complexity, standing apart from more conventionally styled blends. The NV Françoise Bedel Origin'elle Extra-Brut is highly versatile at the table, pairing well with oysters, shellfish, sushi, roast poultry, creamy cheeses and a wide range of seafood dishes. Its combination of texture, freshness and savoury complexity also makes it an excellent choice throughout a meal rather than solely as an aperitif. |
