Domaine Robert Ampeau & Fils is one of Burgundy's most distinctive traditional estates. Based in Puligny-Montrachet, the family has built its reputation on an unusual philosophy of late release, cellaring wines at the domaine for many years before offering them to the market. This practice allows the wines to develop under ideal conditions, giving collectors access to mature Burgundy with impeccable provenance. The estate owns vineyards across Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay, Pommard and Savigny-lès-Beaune, producing wines renowned for their longevity and classical style.

La Pièce Sous le Bois was the last vineyard acquired by Robert Ampeau in 1973. Situated high on the slope of Meursault, close to the border with Puligny-Montrachet, it is one of the appellation's highest and steepest Premier Cru sites. The combination of limestone-rich soils and cooler elevation gives wines of remarkable tension, minerality and ageing potential. The 2002 vintage is widely regarded as one of Burgundy's finest white vintages of the early 21st century, producing wines with superb balance, concentration and longevity.

After more than two decades of maturation, the 2002 La Pièce Sous le Bois displays extraordinary complexity while retaining remarkable freshness. Aromas of honey, baked apple, ripe pear, melon, toasted hazelnut, brioche and citrus zest are intertwined with chalk, flint and subtle spice. The palate is rich and waxy yet driven by vibrant acidity, revealing flavours of orchard fruit, grilled lemon, beurre noisette and crushed stone. The finish is exceptionally long, saline and mineral, illustrating both the pedigree of the vineyard and the ageing potential of the vintage.
