Les Damodes is a Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru situated at the northern boundary of the commune, adjacent to Vosne-Romanee and directly across from the Ruchottes and Echezeaux Grand Crus. The site covers approximately 8.2 hectares and is known for producing wines of unusual aromatic generosity and elegance for Nuits-Saint-Georges, sharing some of the broader aromatic register associated with its northern neighbour.

The soils at Les Damodes contain a higher proportion of clay over the bedrock limestone compared to some of the more purely mineral Nuits sites, contributing a softer, more supple texture to the wines and slightly earlier drinkability than the iron-rich, mineral-dominant sites further south in the commune. Under Domaine Boigey Freres, the 2023 vintage will have benefited from the warm, ripe growing conditions that characterised much of the Cote de Nuits that year.

Considered alongside Les Boudots, Les Damodes offers a complementary expression of the northern Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru character: where Boudots is the finer, more Vosne-like wine, Damodes tends to show slightly more body and a broader aromatic range. For buyers seeking to compare and contrast the northern premiers crus of Nuits-Saint-Georges from the same producer and vintage, these two wines are an instructive pair.

Drink from approximately 2027 to 2035. Pair with roasted duck or guinea fowl, mushroom risotto or soft Epoisses. Decant for one hour on opening now; the wine will require several years to fully integrate its youthful tannins.

Ruby red with some depth of colour. The nose opens with red cherry, dried plum, spice and a hint of fine earth. The palate is medium-bodied and supple, with a slightly richer texture than the Boudots cuvee, good freshness and a warm, spiced finish. More approachable now but will benefit from five or more years in the cellar.
