The village-level Gevrey-Chambertin under the La Gibryotte label represents the third tier in Domaine Claude Dugat's range, sourced from estate holdings within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation that do not meet the classification for the premier cru or grand cru bottlings. Even at this level, the estate's typically rigorous approach to viticulture and its low-yield philosophy produce a village wine of unusual concentration and character relative to the generic profile of many Gevrey village wines on the market. The Wine Advocate (William Kelley, January 2025) awarded 89-91 points from barrel, describing a wine 'bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, spices and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural palate, lively and mouthwatering.' William Kelley noted it as 'an especially charming, giving vintage of the Dugat village bottling', reflecting the 2023's approachable, open character relative to the more introverted recent vintages. Village Gevrey-Chambertin from Claude Dugat occupies a unique position in the market: it is, by classification, a village wine, but the estate's reputation ensures that it trades at prices and with demand levels typically associated with premier cru Gevrey from less sought-after producers. For collectors who maintain a Dugat allocation at any level, the village Gevrey offers the earliest-drinking and most immediately accessible expression of the estate's style in any given vintage. Drink from 2027 to 2035. A natural partner for roast chicken with morels, duck breast or aged Epoisses. Decant one hour before service.
Ruby red with a clean, bright edge. The nose is generous and open with cherries, raspberries, Gevrey-typical spice and a light mineral note. The palate is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural with lively acidity and a clean, mouthwatering finish. The 2023's accessibility makes this one of the more immediately enjoyable Dugat Gevrey village releases in recent memory. |
