Cantina Terlano is among the most celebrated cooperative wineries in Italy, a distinction it has earned through decades of consistently producing white wines of extraordinary quality and age-worthiness from the Alto Adige’s volcanic porphyry and quartzite soils above the town of Terlano. The cooperative’s Rarity cuvée represents its most ambitious and historically significant offering: a Pinot Bianco produced from the estate’s oldest vine parcels and aged for a minimum of ten years in the cellar before release, a practice that has been pursued without interruption since the early twentieth century and that demonstrates, year after year, the extraordinary ageing potential of Alto Adige Pinot Bianco from the finest terraces above the village. The 2011 Rarity was released approximately a decade after harvest, arriving on the market in the early 2020s as a fully developed, mature wine of great complexity.

The terroir around Terlano is among the most distinctive in the entire Alto Adige appellation: soils of volcanic porphyry and quartzite, formed by the interaction of igneous and metamorphic geology that is unique within the broader calcareous Alpine context of South Tyrol, impart a distinctive mineral signature to the wines characterised by extraordinary freshness, a reductive, almost flinty quality in youth and the ability to develop extraordinary complexity over decades in bottle without losing their primary freshness.
