Tasting Notes  :

E. Pira & Figli is one of Barolo's most respected family estates, located in the village of Barolo. The winery entered a new era in 1990 when Chiara Boschis acquired the historic property, becoming one of the first female proprietors in Barolo. As a leading member of the influential "Barolo Boys", Boschis helped modernise Barolo through meticulous vineyard management, gentle extraction and careful oak ageing while remaining faithful to Nebbiolo's ability to express terroir.

Today, the estate cultivates approximately 12 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious crus such as Cannubi, Via Nuova, Mosconi and Terlo. The Mosconi vineyard, situated in Monforte d'Alba, is renowned for producing Barolos of depth, structure and longevity. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, followed by maturation in a combination of French oak barriques and large oak casks, striking a balance between elegance and vineyard expression. The challenging 2014 vintage, marked by a cool growing season, produced wines of freshness, aromatic precision and excellent site definition.

Produced from 100% Nebbiolo, the 2014 Mosconi is a powerful yet refined expression of this celebrated Monforte cru.

Deep garnet-ruby in colour, the bouquet reveals aromas of black cherry, wild blackberry, dried rose, liquorice and dark plum, complemented by notes of tobacco, truffle, iron, crushed stone and sweet spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, combining ripe dark fruit with vibrant acidity and firm, finely textured tannins. Despite the cooler vintage, the wine displays impressive concentration, minerality and balance. Layers of cherry, cocoa, orange peel and savoury herbs lead to a long, persistent finish marked by saline minerality and polished structure.

" Chiara Boschis' take on Monforte's Wagnerian terroir translates it into a minerally, fruit-driven symphony with refined tannins and graceful flavour. This is a brilliant compromise between acidity and sweetness. " -- Decanter

" Plenty of dried berries and herbs with meat, woody spices and fresh roses. Elegant yet firm tannins hold the red-plum finish long. A great result with real tension." -- James Suckling

" A mix of cherry, eucalyptus, iron and tobacco aromas and flavours are gripped by dense, dusty tannins. Fine intensity with a kernel of sweet fruit on the finish." -- Wine Spectator
