Tasting Notes

Cigliuti is one of the historic family estates of Neive, one of Barbaresco's three principal communes. The winery traces its roots to 1964, when Renato Cigliuti began bottling wines from the family's vineyards on the renowned Serraboella cru. Today, the estate is managed by sisters Claudia and Silvia Cigliuti, who continue the family's reputation for producing elegant, site-driven Nebbiolo.

The estate farms approximately 11 hectares of sustainably managed vineyards, with holdings in prestigious crus including Serraboella, Bricco di Neive and Vie Erte. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, followed by traditional ageing in large Slavonian oak casks and French oak, allowing each vineyard to express its individual personality. The Vie Erte vineyard, situated in the Bricco di Neive MGA, is characterised by sandy limestone soils that produce particularly perfumed and approachable expressions of Barbaresco.

The 2018 Vie Erte is produced from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from the Bricco di Neive cru. After traditional fermentation, the wine is matured in oak before extended bottle ageing prior to release.

The 2018 vintage is graceful and finely structured, reflecting the cooler growing season. Aromas of rose petals, violets, red cherry, wild strawberry and dried herbs are complemented by notes of cedar, tobacco, leather and mint. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, refined tannins and a mineral-driven finish. Compared with warmer vintages, the 2018 emphasises finesse, aromatic purity and elegance over power, making it approachable earlier while retaining the capacity to age gracefully.

" Bright and effusive. Sandy soils yield a Barbaresco with lovely aromatic presence and mid-weight structure. Rose petal, mint, cedar, tobacco and leather lend layers of dimension. The tannins have begun to soften, although the year's restrained structure is evident. "  -- Vinous

" Fragrant aromas of truffle, star anise, violet, plum and a hint of menthol. The palate is still youthful, offering dried cherry, licorice and mocha framed by tightly wound tannins. Needs time to fully develop. " -- Wine Enthusiast
