Founded in 1870, Francesco Rinaldi & Figli is one of Barolo's historic family estates and one of the region's most respected traditional producers. Located in the heart of the village of Barolo, the winery remains family-owned and is today managed by Paola and Piera Rinaldi, representing the fifth generation. The estate is renowned for preserving classic Barolo winemaking, including long macerations and extended ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, producing wines that faithfully express both vineyard and vintage. The Brunate cru is one of Barolo's most celebrated vineyards, straddling the communes of Barolo and La Morra. With its south and south-east exposures, limestone-clay soils and a small proportion of sand, Brunate consistently produces Nebbiolo of exceptional perfume, elegance and longevity. Francesco Rinaldi owns approximately 2 hectares within this historic cru, with vines planted between 1979 and 1981. After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, the wine matures for at least three years in 5,000-litre Slavonian oak botti, remaining true to the estate's traditional style. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, the 2018 Barolo Brunate is a classic expression of this renowned vineyard. The cooler 2018 vintage produced wines of finesse and aromatic purity, emphasising elegance over sheer power. The bouquet reveals fragrant aromas of rose petals, wild strawberry, red cherry, blood orange and violets, intertwined with notes of liquorice, dried herbs, sweet spice and crushed stone. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with finely woven tannins, lively acidity and remarkable precision. Layers of red berry fruit, savoury herbs, tobacco and mineral nuances build towards a long, refined finish. While approachable with decanting, the wine possesses the structure and balance to reward long-term cellaring. " The 2018 Brunate is an elegant, finely sculpted Barolo. Bright red-toned fruit, rose petal, spice and mineral notes are supported by vibrant acidity and polished tannins, with excellent persistence and classic Brunate finesse." -- Vinous, Antonio Galloni |
