Tasting Note :

Antica Terra’s white wine programme is as carefully considered and philosophically distinctive as its Pinot Noir range. Maggie Harrison has always maintained that the rules governing which barrels of which variety end up in which cuvee are reinvented each vintage with no fixed formula, making the wines genuinely exploratory in character. The Glories series represents one of the estate’s more artistic and experimental releases: white wines assembled from their various white grape holdings with an emphasis on texture, tension and site expression over varietal identification.

Antiga Terra’s estate in the Eola-Amity Hills is planted to both Pinot Noir and various white varieties including Chardonnay and Roussanne, grown in the same extraordinary soil matrix of fossilised oyster shells and sandstone that defines the red wines. The 2019 vintage in Oregon produced white wines of excellent balance and acidity, a year that saw the Willamette Valley’s top estates produce whites of notable energy and site fidelity. The Glories No. 2, produced in very small quantities, reflects this vintage’s characteristic freshness.

The Glories series occupies a deliberately unusual position at the periphery of Antica Terra’s main portfolio, produced in quantities small enough to fall outside the mainstream critical review cycle. The estate’s white wines have received less consistent critical coverage than their red counterparts, though the Chardonnay-based Aurata regularly earns outstanding scores and appears in James Suckling’s Oregon tastings. The Glories No. 2 is best understood as a wine made for collectors with deep familiarity with the Antica Terra style.

Pale gold with aromas of white flowers, citrus peel, honey and a distinctive saline mineral quality derived from the estate’s marine sediment soils. The palate is textured and layered with stone fruit, hazelnuts and chalk-like minerality, supported by vivid natural acidity and a long, savoury finish. A wine of considerable individuality and intellectual interest.
