Tenuta Perano is one of the flagship estates of the historic Marchesi Frescobaldi family, whose winemaking heritage in Tuscany spans more than 700 years and over 30 generations. Acquired in the heart of Gaiole in Chianti, the estate comprises approximately 150 hectares, with vineyards planted between 500 and 650 metres above sea level on amphitheatre-shaped hillsides. The combination of high elevation, Galestro and Alberese soils, and excellent day-to-night temperature variation produces Sangiovese of remarkable elegance, freshness and longevity. Rialzi is the estate's flagship Gran Selezione, produced exclusively from a single vineyard whose name refers to its distinctive three natural terraces ("rialzi"). Only the finest Sangiovese grapes are selected, and the wine is aged for 36 months, including 24 months in oak followed by extended bottle maturation before release. It represents Frescobaldi's finest expression of the Tenuta Perano terroir. Made from 100% Sangiovese, the 2021 Rialzi reflects one of the finest recent Tuscan vintages. The growing season produced perfectly ripened fruit while preserving freshness and aromatic precision. The wine is deep ruby in colour with an intense bouquet of black cherry, red plum, wild berries and violets, complemented by notes of tobacco, sweet spices, cedar, graphite and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, with refined tannins, vibrant acidity and impressive mineral tension. Layers of ripe red fruit, liquorice and savoury spice unfold across a long, persistent finish, combining power with elegance and exceptional ageing potential. " Aromas of black cherries, orange peel, bark, walnuts and dried flowers. Full-bodied with super tense structure, zesty acidity and refined, velvety tannins. Powerful yet polished with a long, energetic finish. Better from 2026." -- James Suckling " The 2021 Rialzi is elegant and finely sculpted, offering vibrant red cherry, crushed flowers, spice and mineral notes. Bright acidity and polished tannins frame a long, persistent finish, highlighting both the precision of the vintage and the character of the Gaiole terroir. " -- Vinous " The nose is savoury yet balanced, with aromas of hot tar, leather and spices alongside mature figs and black cherries. On the palate, wild strawberries and raspberries are lifted by citrus and saline notes, creating a harmonious and vibrant expression." -- Wine Enthusiast |
