Tasting Note :

Seven Springs Vineyard is one of the Willamette Valley’s most celebrated Chardonnay sites, situated in the Eola-Amity Hills at an elevation where the afternoon Van Duzer winds regularly cool temperatures and prolong the ripening season. The vineyard was formerly associated with Evening Land Vineyards before being acquired by the family behind Lingua Franca, and it has attracted consistent critical attention as a source of Chardonnay with uncommon precision and site transparency. For 00 Wines, Seven Springs represents one of the most prized components of both the VGW blend and the single-vineyard tier.

The 2023 Seven Springs Chardonnay from 00 Wines was produced in a vintage that multiple winemakers in the Eola-Amity Hills described as exceptionally balanced, with steady sugar accumulation and naturally high acidity producing wines of clarity and definition. The Seven Springs site’s volcanic soils and Van Duzer wind influence are particularly well-expressed in 2023, the cool nights of the growing season having preserved the characteristic floral and mineral aromatic precision of this storied vineyard. The wine was fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak following the 00 Wines house protocol.

James Suckling awarded the 2023 Seven Springs Chardonnay 95 points, describing it as “full-throttle” with coconut, apple pie and citrus notes and a flavourful, full-bodied palate. Within the 00 Wines hierarchy, the Seven Springs occupies an important position as one of the winery’s most consistently acclaimed single-origin bottlings, regularly attracting scores above 95 points across multiple publications. The magnum format extends the wine’s considerable cellaring potential, making it a compelling collector choice from a vintage with broad critical recognition.

Golden with a generous nose of coconut, apple pie, baked apple, citrus and spice, with a distinctive floral top note from the Seven Springs site’s Van Duzer wind exposure. Full-bodied and richly flavoured with a tangy, saline acidity and a long, nutty finish with a gratifying mineral persistence. Full-throttle in character; best from 2025 through 2034.

Lots of coconut and wood on the nose with apple pie and citrus. Both dried and cooked apples with coconut continue on the full-bodied, really flavourful and tangy palate. Some yoghurt and matchstick in the finish. Delicious and fresh. If you like full-throttle Chardonnay, this is it. Drink or hold.  — James Suckling
