The Hermann Family Cuvée series represents the absolute pinnacle of the 00 Wines Chardonnay programme: single-vineyard bottlings assembled from the finest barrels of the finest sites, each named for a member of the Hermann family whose commitment has shaped the winery’s vision. The Kathryn Hermann Cuvée is named for Chris Hermann’s wife, who has been central to the winery’s development alongside its founder. Within the hierarchy, the Hermann Family Cuvée wines sit above the EGW and VGW and are produced in quantities small enough to be considered among Oregon’s most genuinely rare and sought-after Chardonnays. The 2022 growing season’s dramatic recovery from spring frost devastation produced small, intensely concentrated clusters from the Willamette Valley’s finest Chardonnay sites, with the reduction in crop load translating directly into greater depth of flavour and mineral intensity in the resulting wines. For the Kathryn Hermann Cuvée, produced only from the most exceptional barrels of a single-site selection, 2022 delivered a wine of exceptional completeness. Decanter’s Clive Pursehouse described it as “a New World Chardonnay approaching perfection,” noting its complex character of flint smoke, grilled pineapple, clover honey, candied ginger and vivid citrus. Decanter awarded the 2022 Kathryn Hermann Cuvée 98 points, one of the highest scores awarded to any American Chardonnay and a recognition that places 00 Wines squarely alongside the finest white wine producers on the global stage. The magnum format ensures the wine is presented at its absolute best for long-term ageing, and given the extreme rarity of the Hermann Family Cuvée magnums, bottles available through specialist retailers represent a genuinely significant collector opportunity. The wine’s growing international recognition has substantially lengthened the allocation waiting list. An arrestingly complex nose of flint smoke, grilled pineapple, clover honey, candied ginger, brine and vivid citrus cream. Silky and textural on the palate with striking concentration and a mineral precision that recalls the finest Puligny-Montrachet but in an unmistakably Oregon register. The finish is long, briny and extraordinarily persistent. Best from 2026 through 2038.A New World Chardonnay approaching perfection, with flint smoke, grilled pineapple, clover honey, candied ginger, brine and vivid citrus cream on a palate of compelling texture and exceptional length. — Decanter |
