Benoit Girardin is a young Burgundy producer from the Girardin family of Santenay, one of Burgundy's most prominent winemaking dynasties. Having worked extensively at the family domaine, Benoit established his own estate using eight hectares inherited from his father Yves, producing reds and whites across the southern Cote de Beaune. The estate is recognised for a hands-on, terroir-transparent approach to winemaking that emphasises freshness and elegance.

This Pommard is one of Benoit Girardin's northernmost holdings and expresses the firmer, more structured character for which the appellation is known. Pommard's clay-rich soils on the Volnay side of the commune deliver wines of good colour, tannic presence and ageing potential. In 2021, a challenging vintage marked by spring frost damage across much of Burgundy, surviving fruit was concentrated and of excellent quality, giving producers who avoided frost loss particularly good raw material.

2021 Burgundy is now widely regarded as a successful vintage despite the difficult start: the wines show a fresh, elegant profile with well-defined acidity and genuinely fine tannins that have encouraged early consumption. For a village-level Pommard from a focused young producer, the 2021 represents a clean and expressive release. Benoit Girardin's work in Santenay has quickly established a reputation among sommeliers and trade buyers seeking honest, well-made wines from the southern Cote de Beaune.

Drink from 2026 to 2031. A natural pairing for braised beef short ribs, roast duck or strong farmhouse cheese. Decant for thirty to forty-five minutes before service.

Ruby red with good depth. The nose shows red cherry, plum, dried violet and a subtle earthy note from the clay-rich Pommard soils. The palate is medium-full bodied with present but fine tannins, good natural acidity and a fresh, focused finish. The 2021 elegance is clear; this will reward a few years in the cellar.
