Tasting Note :

Henri et Gilles Buisson is a family estate based in Saint-Romain in the Cote de Beaune, a high-altitude village situated at the base of the limestone escarpment above Auxey-Duresses and Meursault. The Buisson family has farmed this terrain for multiple generations and produces a focused range of red and white wines that reflect the cooler, more northerly character of these elevated sites.

Auxey-Duresses is one of the Cote de Beaune's most underappreciated appellations, wedged between Meursault to the east and Saint-Romain to the north at elevations of between 250 and 400 metres. Les Ecusseaux is one of the village's principal premiers crus, running across predominantly limestone soils on a slope that delivers well-defined fruit and a firmness of structure typical of the cooler conditions here. The 2021 vintage across the Cote de Beaune rewarded careful viticulture with wines of elegant freshness and pure fruit definition.

Auxey-Duresses rouge is frequently cited by Burgundy specialists as offering genuine premier cru quality at village-level prices, given the appellation's modest profile. Wines from focused producers such as Buisson are increasingly sought by buyers seeking well-made, terroir-specific Pinot Noir from the southern Cote de Beaune without the premium attached to Volnay, Pommard or Meursault. Les Ecusseaux offers both character and ageability at an accessible price point.

Drink from 2025 to 2030. Pair with roast duck, rabbit in mustard sauce or aged Epoisses. Decant for thirty minutes before serving.

Clear ruby with a bright, translucent edge. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, dried violet and a stony mineral thread lead to a medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and lively, clean acidity. The finish is persistent with a touch of earthy depth typical of Auxey-Duresses. Fresh and precise.
