Founded by the legendary Bruno Giacosa (1929–2018), the estate is one of Piedmont’s most respected traditional producers, renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship and exceptional expressions of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Arneis. Based in Neive, in the Langhe region of Piedmont, Bruno Giacosa began working with grapes at the age of 15, initially as a négociant selecting fruit from outstanding vineyards before establishing his own estate vineyards. His deep understanding of vineyard sites and traditional winemaking earned him a reputation as one of Italy’s greatest interpreters of Nebbiolo. Bruno Giacosa became particularly famous for his Barolo and Barbaresco Riserva wines, especially the iconic Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba and Asili Riserva, which are considered benchmarks for traditional Piedmontese winemaking. The estate’s philosophy centres on purity, patience and respect for Nebbiolo’s natural character, favouring long ageing in large oak casks rather than heavy extraction or excessive oak influence. The Nebbiolo d’Alba represents an accessible expression of the same philosophy, showcasing the elegance and complexity normally associated with higher appellations such as Barbaresco and Barolo. The 2020 Bruno Giacosa Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC is produced from 100% Nebbiolo, sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Alba area, including parcels around Monteu Roero, Santo Stefano Roero and Vezza d’Alba. The vines are approximately 20–40 years old, planted on the sandy and calcareous soils typical of the Roero and Langhe areas, which contribute elegance, aromatic intensity and refined tannins. The wine undergoes fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks, followed by approximately 14 months ageing in French oak before bottling. This approach preserves Nebbiolo’s delicate floral character while allowing the tannins to integrate and the wine to develop greater complexity. The 2020 vintage displays the classic Bruno Giacosa signature: refinement rather than power. The wine shows aromas of red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petals and violet, complemented by savoury notes of leather, tobacco, dried herbs, liquorice and earthy spice. On the palate, it offers bright acidity, fine-grained tannins and a graceful structure, with a long mineral finish. It is approachable in its youth but has sufficient structure to develop additional complexity over the next several years. " The 2020 Nebbiolo d’Alba Vigna Valmaggiore from Bruno Giacosa was praised for its elegance and fruit purity. The review highlighted cherry, bright berry and cassis aromas, describing the wine as open-knit and fruit-forward with a delicate softness balanced by lively freshness. The palate shows polished tannins and excellent persistence." --- Wine Advocate
