Founded in 1859 in the village of Barbaresco, Gaja is widely regarded as one of Italy's most influential wineries. Under the visionary leadership of Angelo Gaja, who joined the family business in 1961, the estate revolutionised Piedmont through lower vineyard yields, meticulous viticulture and the introduction of modern cellar techniques while maintaining deep respect for Nebbiolo and the region's traditions.

Today, the fifth generation—Gaia, Rossana and Giovanni Gaja—works alongside Angelo to oversee the family's estates in Piedmont, Tuscany and Bolgheri. Sito Moresco was first produced in 1983 and takes its name from the previous owner of one of the vineyards ("Moresco"). It was created to offer a more approachable expression of Langhe while showcasing Gaja's philosophy of blending indigenous Nebbiolo with international varieties for elegance, complexity and accessibility.

The 2021 Sito Moresco is a blend of approximately 35% Nebbiolo, 35% Merlot and 30% Barbera. Each variety is fermented separately before ageing for around 12 months in a combination of barriques and large oak casks, followed by blending and further bottle maturation before release.

The outstanding 2021 vintage delivers a wine of remarkable freshness and precision. The bouquet reveals aromas of black cherry, wild berries, cassis, violets, rose petals and sweet spice, complemented by hints of cedar, tobacco and graphite. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and impressive concentration. Nebbiolo contributes floral lift and structure, Merlot brings richness and texture, while Barbera adds freshness and juicy fruit. The finish is long, refined and mineral-driven, making the wine approachable in its youth while capable of ageing gracefully for a decade or more.
