Les Poruzots is one of Meursault's most respected premier crus, divided into the upper section, Poruzots-Dessus, and the lower section, Poruzots-Dessous. The Dessus parcel sits at higher elevation with somewhat lighter soils, producing wines of a particular mineral tension and freshness that distinguishes the upper section from the richer, earthier character of the lower Poruzots. Domaine Arnaud Tessier's holding in Poruzots-Dessus represents one of the most precisely positioned premier cru sites in the estate's range. Meursault Les Poruzots as an appellation occupies the northern part of the premier cru slope, above and to the north of the Charmes vineyard, where the slope begins to orient more distinctly toward the east. The soils here contain significant proportions of marl over the limestone bedrock, contributing an earthy, mineral quality to the wines that has led critics to describe Poruzots as one of Meursault's most 'Burgundian' premier crus in the sense of structure over richness. In 2022, the warm vintage delivered fruit of generous ripeness that the Dessus section's natural freshness and acidity kept in balance. For buyers exploring Meursault's premier cru hierarchy through a single producer's range, the comparison between Charmes Dessus and Poruzots Dessus from Arnaud Tessier is instructive: both are serious premier crus from the same vintage and winemaker, but from sites of contrasting character, the first richer and more immediately generous, the second more mineral and structured. This comparative exercise is available only when a single focused estate produces both with consistent winemaking. Best from 2026 to 2035. Pair with turbot, lobster, fine white fish or rich mushroom and truffle preparations. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees Celsius in a large white Burgundy glass. Pale gold with a fine mineral shimmer. The nose is precise and refined, with pear skin, white flower, lemon zest, hazelnut and a chalky stone mineral quality more restrained than the Charmes. The palate is medium-full bodied with excellent acidity, good concentration and a clean, saline, mineral-driven finish of good length. More structured and age-worthy than the Charmes; patience is recommended. |
