Tasting Note :

Colore is Bibi Graetz’s most individualistic and philosophically interesting wine, a blend of old-vine indigenous Tuscan varieties that extends beyond Sangiovese to incorporate Canaiolo, Colorino and other ancient varieties of the Florentine and Sienese hills. Where Testamatta celebrates the purity and transparency of a single variety, Colore is conceived as a statement of the complexity that Tuscany’s forgotten viticultural heritage can achieve when farmed and vinified with the same exacting attention that elite single-variety wines receive. The name itself, “Colore,” references both the wine’s intensity of colour and its function as a kind of vinous portrait of multiple Tuscan sites expressed simultaneously.

The grapes for Colore are sourced from the same network of old vine parcels that supplies Testamatta, prioritising Canaiolo and Colorino of particular age and character alongside Sangiovese and other indigenous varieties whose presence adds aromatic complexity and textural nuance to the final blend. The wine is produced in very small quantities, typically fewer cases than Testamatta, and has attracted some of Graetz’s highest critical scores due to its unusual aromatic depth and the structural ambition that multiple indigenous varieties provide when blended with precision and restraint. Like Testamatta, Colore is aged in old barrels and bottled without filtration.

Bibi Graetz’s Colore has achieved remarkable scores across recent vintages from the world’s most demanding wine publications, confirming the wine’s status as one of Italy’s most unique and age-worthy red wines. Graetz’s own view is that Colore best expresses the full potential of Tuscany’s pre-phylloxera viticultural tradition, restored to modern expression through careful farming of ancient vineyard material. The wine’s scarcity, individuality and critical standing have made it a priority purchase for collectors who follow Italian fine wine with serious attention. As with Testamatta, the specific vintage of this multi-vintage case should be confirmed with the supplier before purchase.

Deep, almost opaque garnet with an extraordinarily complex nose of dried cherry, blackberry, iron, violets, smoked meat, balsamic herb, leather and ancient Tuscan earth. The palate is dense and concentrated but never heavy, with a remarkable tension between power and elegance and a finish of exceptional length and complexity. A wine that demands time; best from five to fifteen years after vintage.
