Tasting Note :

Benoît Dehu is a grower-producer in Festigny in the Vallée de la Marne, farming vineyards that are predominantly planted with Pinot Meunier on the clay and limestone soils of the valley floor. Dehu is one of the most philosophically engaged growers in this zone, farming organically and producing a range of wines that prioritise the specific character of each parcel and each variety over the blended house style of the major négoçiants. The Cuvée L’Orme is Dehu’s Blanc de Noirs expression, produced entirely from Pinot Meunier grown on specific parcels within the estate’s Marne valley holdings and vinified as a white sparkling wine by very gentle pressing to extract only the clearest, most delicate juice without colour. The Brut Nature designation confirms the absence of any dosage at disgorgement, making this a wine whose character depends entirely on the quality of the base material and the ageing process.

A Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Meunier in the Brut Nature style is a genuinely rare proposition: most Meunier-based blanc de noirs from the valley zone tend towards a slightly warmer, rounder style than the more austere Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Noir in Ambonnay or Aÿ, and the zero-dosage approach places high demands on the quality and natural balance of the base wine. Dehu’s organic farming and careful parcel selection produce Meunier of unusual finesse and mineral precision for this zone, and the absence of dosage reveals the wine’s natural acidity, yeast character and the distinctive earthy, red-fruit-inflected quality of the valley’s finest old-vine Pinot Meunier.

Benoît Dehu has built a following among specialist grower Champagne importers and retailers who seek wines of genuine individual character from the lesser-celebrated zones of the appellation. The Vallée de la Marne’s finest growers are increasingly recognised for producing Meunier-dominant Champagnes that express a terroir identity quite distinct from the chalky precision of the Côte des Blancs or the powerful Pinot Noir character of the Montagne de Reims, and Dehu’s L’Orme is one of the most thoughtfully produced expressions of this identity currently available.

Pale gold with very fine bubbles and an aromatic nose of wild strawberry, red apple, fresh herbs, brioche and a gentle earthy mineral note from the Marne valley limestone and clay. Light to medium-bodied with vibrant natural acidity, a delicate mousse and a long, bone-dry, slightly savoury finish that reflects the Brut Nature philosophy and the valley’s distinctive Meunier terroir. Best now through 2028.
