The 2008 Lamaione is the flagship Merlot of Marchesi Frescobaldi, produced from a single vineyard within the historic CastelGiocondo estate in Montalcino. First created in 1991, Lamaione was among the pioneering wines that demonstrated the exceptional potential of Merlot in Tuscany, helping to establish the category of premium single-varietal Tuscan reds alongside the region's more traditional Sangiovese-based wines.

The vineyard sits at an elevation of approximately 300 metres above sea level on clay-rich soils that are particularly well suited to Merlot. These soils naturally limit vine vigour while providing sufficient water reserves during the warm Tuscan summers. The 2008 vintage delivered balanced growing conditions, producing wines with excellent structure, freshness and long-term ageing potential.

After more than fifteen years of bottle age, the wine reveals an expressive bouquet of black plum, blackberry and dried cherry, intertwined with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, leather, dark chocolate and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied and beautifully evolved, with velvety tannins supporting layers of dark fruit, spice and savoury complexity. The maturity of the vintage has brought harmony and refinement, while the wine retains impressive freshness and length through the finish.
