The 2010 Domaine de Chevalier is one of the standout wines from a vintage widely regarded as one of Bordeaux's greatest modern classics. Produced by Domaine de Chevalier, a Cru Classé de Graves estate in Pessac-Léognan, the wine exemplifies the estate's reputation for combining power, elegance and remarkable ageing potential. Located south of Bordeaux in Léognan, Domaine de Chevalier is one of the few estates classified for both red and white wines in the Graves Classification and has long been considered one of the appellation's benchmark producers. "Clearly in its prime drinking window, the 2010 Domaine De Chevalier is gorgeous stuff, offering a complex mix of both red and black fruits, truffly earth, chocolate, and some meaty, bloody notes. Incredibly concentrated, it's medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, outstanding balance, and remarkable length. This absolutely classic Domaine de Chevalier will evolve gracefully over the coming 4-5 decades. Drink 2025-2065. - Jeb Dunnuck This is the most structured and powerful DC in a long, long time. Full bodied, with polished and rich tannins and a long finish. Tasted twice. The rising star of Bordeaux? - James Suckling The 2010 Domaine de Chevalier shows a little more amplitude compared to the Malartic-Lagravière, red and black fruit, undergrowth, pressed rose petals and a touch of crushed stone all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins but demonstrating great depth. This feels saline, slightly marine-influenced in the mouth, with outstanding precision on the slightly peppery finish. Oliver Bernard oversaw a magnificent Grand Vin. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the BI Wines & Spirits 10-Year On tasting. - Vinous |
