The 2019 Contratto Metodo Classico Millesimato Pas Dosé is a vintage sparkling wine from Piedmont, produced by Contratto, one of Italy's most historic sparkling wine houses. Founded in 1867, Contratto played a pioneering role in the development of traditional-method sparkling wine in Italy and remains a benchmark producer for high-quality Metodo Classico wines. Crafted using the same traditional method employed in Champagne, this vintage cuvée is produced from carefully selected grapes grown in the cool hills of Piedmont. The favourable conditions of the 2019 vintage delivered fruit with excellent ripeness and natural acidity, providing both depth and precision. Extended ageing on the lees contributes complexity and texture, while the Pas Dosé style means no dosage is added after disgorgement, allowing the wine's terroir and fruit character to be expressed with maximum transparency. The wine opens with aromas of lemon zest, green apple and white peach, complemented by notes of toasted brioche, roasted almonds and chalky minerality. On the palate, it is vibrant and structured, with fine, persistent bubbles supporting a concentrated core of citrus and orchard fruit. The absence of dosage enhances the wine's freshness and mineral precision, leading to a long, dry and focused finish. The 2019 Contratto Metodo Classico Millesimato Pas Dosé showcases a more refined and terroir-driven style of Italian sparkling wine, balancing the richness derived from lees ageing with the tension and clarity associated with zero-dosage bottlings. This wine pairs particularly well with oysters, shellfish, sashimi, grilled seafood, tempura and hard cheeses. Its crisp acidity and mineral profile also make it an excellent aperitif. |
