The 2020 Domaine Pignier Côtes du Jura Trousseau is a red wine from the Jura, produced by Domaine Pignier, one of the region's oldest and most respected estates. With a history dating back to the 13th century, the domaine has become a reference point for biodynamic viticulture in the Jura, focusing on low-intervention winemaking and the preservation of the region's indigenous grape varieties. Made from 100% Trousseau, one of the Jura's signature red grapes, the wine is sourced from vineyards planted on marl and limestone soils around Montaigu. Trousseau is prized for its ability to produce wines with aromatic complexity, fine structure and a distinctive balance between freshness and concentration. The warm and successful 2020 vintage provided excellent ripeness, allowing the variety's expressive character to shine while maintaining its hallmark vibrancy. The wine opens with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, complemented by notes of dried herbs, white pepper, forest floor and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and energetic, with bright acidity supporting a core of pure red fruit. Fine tannins provide structure, while earthy and mineral nuances add depth and complexity to the long, savoury finish. Trousseau has become increasingly sought after by sommeliers and wine enthusiasts for its distinctive personality and ability to combine elegance with character. Compared with the lighter style of Poulsard and the more familiar profile of Pinot Noir, Trousseau often delivers greater depth, spice and ageing potential, making it one of the Jura's most compelling red grape varieties.
