The 2021 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is one of Bordeaux's most celebrated dry white wines, produced by Domaine de Chevalier, the flagship estate of the Bernard family in Pessac-Léognan. Widely regarded as one of the finest white wine estates in Bordeaux, Domaine de Chevalier has built an international reputation for crafting whites that combine intensity, elegance and extraordinary ageing potential. The estate's white vineyards cover only a small portion of the property, making the wine significantly rarer than its red counterpart. Situated on deep gravel soils over clay and gravel subsoils in Pessac-Léognan, the estate benefits from a terroir particularly suited to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The 2021 vintage is a blend of approximately 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, fermented and aged in oak barrels for an extended period to build texture and complexity while preserving freshness. The cooler growing season produced wines of exceptional precision and aromatic purity, characteristics that are especially evident in the white wines of Bordeaux. "This is always an impressive white, with a lengthy, layered and compact palate. Lots of dried lemon, clove, fennel, green-apple and cedar. Flint and toast, too. Medium to full body. Very long. 70% sauvignon blanc and 30% semillon. - James Suckling The 2021 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc dazzles from start to finish. Bright, sculpted and sizzling with saline-infused vibrancy, the Blanc offers a beguiling mix of citrus, floral and mineral notes, delivering tremendous flavor intensity with no excess weight at all. There is a feeling of airiness and precision here that is simply mind-blowing. Readers will find a Blanc of tremendous pedigree that evokes the great vintages at this property. There was some variation in samples, but barrel samples are especially finicky at this stage, especially whites. This is a tremendous showing. - Vinous The 2021 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a blend of 70% Sauvignon and 30% Sémillon that matured for 18 months in barrels, of which 35% were new. Delivering a deep, complex bouquet that features aromas of spices, white pepper, elderflower, citrus oil and wet stones, it's full-bodied, round and generous, with a satiny attack that segues into a fleshy, vibrant palate, concluding with a pure and precise finish. - Wine Advocate |
