The 2022 Domaine Philippe Girard Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes is a Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's most revered villages for red wine. Produced by Domaine Philippe Girard, a family-owned estate based in Savigny-lès-Beaune, this cuvée is sourced from old-vine parcels in Chambolle-Musigny, where low yields and deep root systems contribute additional concentration and complexity to the wine. Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny is renowned for producing some of Burgundy's most elegant and perfumed expressions of Pinot Noir. The village's limestone-rich soils and gentle slopes are particularly well suited to wines of finesse and aromatic precision. Old vines further enhance the expression of terroir, often resulting in greater depth, structure and length while preserving the appellation's hallmark refinement. The warm and balanced 2022 vintage produced fruit of excellent ripeness while retaining freshness and energy. The wine opens with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, layered with notes of rose petal, violet, baking spice and subtle forest floor nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and silky, with vibrant acidity supporting a core of pure red fruit. Fine-grained tannins provide structure without heaviness, while a mineral undertone carries through to a long, elegant finish. Vieilles Vignes bottlings from Chambolle-Musigny are particularly prized for combining the village's signature delicacy with additional concentration and ageing potential. The 2022 vintage's generosity of fruit makes the wine approachable in its youth, yet the structure and balance suggest it will continue to evolve gracefully over the coming decade |
