The 2022 Guidalberto is the second wine of Tenuta San Guido, the legendary Tuscan estate behind Sassicaia. First introduced in 2000, Guidalberto was created to offer a more approachable interpretation of the estate's Bolgheri terroir while maintaining the precision, balance and elegance that have made Tenuta San Guido one of Italy's most respected producers. Located along the Tuscan coast in Bolgheri, Tenuta San Guido helped redefine Italian fine wine through the success of Sassicaia and the emergence of the Super Tuscan category. Guidalberto is sourced from estate vineyards planted on a combination of gravel, limestone and clay soils, benefiting from cooling maritime influences from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The wine is typically a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with Merlot contributing accessibility and richness while Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and freshness. "Gently shining ruby red colour. Multi-layered bouquet, opens on ripe wild berries, redcurrant, notes of juniper, cedar and black pepper, a touch of lilac. Silky attack, precise fruit on very well-integrated, fine tannins, elegant and with gentle pressure in the long final." Falstaff The 2022 Guidalberto is a delicious, approachable wine with plenty of charm. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, cinnamon, licorice and a kiss of oak are all woven together in this gracious, mid-weight offering from Tenuta San Guido. Despite the torrid, dry vintage, Guidalberto retains lovely freshness to match its understated personality. The slender, lithe finish is quite attractive. - Vinous |
