Founded in 1983 by the Rallo family, Donnafugata is one of Sicily's most acclaimed wineries, recognised for producing wines that express the island's diverse terroirs while combining innovation with tradition. The estate farms vineyards across several prestigious appellations, including Contessa Entellina, Pantelleria, Etna and Vittoria. Sustainability, meticulous vineyard management and indigenous Sicilian varieties are central to Donnafugata's philosophy. Floramundi is produced in the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, Sicily's first and only DOCG, where the historic blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato creates elegant, aromatic reds that balance Mediterranean richness with freshness. Grape Varieties: Nero d'Avola and Frappato Ageing: Approximately 8 months in tank followed by at least 7 months in bottle before release Style: A medium-bodied Sicilian red combining the ripe fruit and structure of Nero d'Avola with the floral perfume and vibrant acidity of Frappato. Fresh, silky and approachable, with fine tannins and excellent versatility at the table. "A medium-bodied red with stewed raspberries and strawberries, as well as smoked-meat, dried-rosemary and herb character. Smooth tannins and a juicy finish. Easy going. Drink now." -- James Suckling "The 2018 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Floramundi is an easy-drinking red that possesses the balance and fruit-forward style to pair with most of your favourite trattoria foods. The bouquet opens to red cherry and wild plum, with faint earthy tones on the close. An accessible, lean-bodied red to enjoy over the next few years." -- Wine Advocate, Monica Larner "Savory and polished, this red offers aromas of eucalyptus, fennel seed and dark-skinned berry. The smooth, lithe palate doles out succulent Morello cherry, crushed raspberry and star anise set against graceful tannins and fresh acidity." -- Kerin O'Keefe |
