Tasting Notes

Château Figeac is one of the most historic estates in Saint-Émilion, with origins dating back to the 2nd century during the Roman era. Uniquely situated on deep Günzian gravel soils, Figeac has long favoured a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc—an unusual approach on Bordeaux's Right Bank, where Merlot typically dominates. This terroir gives Figeac a style often compared to the finest Médoc wines, combining elegance, freshness and remarkable longevity. In 2022, the estate was promoted to the prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classé A classification, recognising decades of exceptional quality.

The 2010 vintage is considered one of the estate's modern masterpieces. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, violet, graphite, cigar box and sweet spice. With time in the glass, notes of cedar, tobacco, liquorice and forest floor emerge. The palate is full-bodied yet impeccably balanced, featuring dense but refined tannins, vibrant acidity and outstanding precision. Despite its concentration, the wine retains Figeac's signature freshness and restraint, finishing with exceptional length and mineral definition.

" The wine is beautifully balanced, with dark berry fruit, incense, mulberry and dark plum, noting its persistence and that it is only beginning to reveal its full potential. " -- Vinous

" Praised its aromas of wet earth, sweet berries and cinnamon, with velvety tannins, opulent fruit and excellent integration. " -- James Suckling

" Highlighted lush blackcurrant, mint, bacon and liquorice aromas, alongside impressive freshness, power and a long, majestic finish. " -- Decanter

" Noted its dense structure, mineral character and impressive ageing potential. " -- Wine Enthusiast
