Tasting Notes  :

Château Montrose is one of the greatest estates in Saint-Estèphe and has been classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru Classé) since the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Founded in 1815 by Étienne Théodore Dumoulin, the estate overlooks the Gironde Estuary on deep gravel soils that consistently produce wines of exceptional longevity. Since being acquired by the Bouygues family in 2006, Montrose has invested heavily in precision viticulture, sustainable farming and one of Bordeaux's most advanced gravity-flow wineries, further enhancing its reputation for producing wines of First Growth quality in outstanding vintages.

The 2012 vintage was challenging in Bordeaux, with variable weather throughout the growing season. Careful vineyard management and rigorous selection enabled Château Montrose to produce one of the standout wines of the vintage. The wine underwent a long maceration of 26–28 days before ageing in French oak barrels, resulting in a structured, age-worthy Saint-Estèphe that combines power with remarkable freshness.

The 2012 Montrose is classically styled, displaying aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, cedar, cocoa, tobacco and subtle eucalyptus. On the palate it is full-bodied, concentrated and firmly structured, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish marked by liquorice, mineral notes and dark fruits. Although approachable today with decanting, it still has many years of development ahead.
