2015 was an exceptional vintage in this part of the world, making many second wines a shrewd value purchase. Luckily this doesn't disappoint, although I cannot recommend highly enough that you go for the 2010 at this point, as the 2015 is still extremely young and tight. You can feel a touch of heat on the finish from the alcohol, which is indiscernible in the grand vin, but you can entirely forgive it given its finesse combined with a swirl of cinnamon and a lick of fun. - Decanter, Nov 2017 A tight and focused red with red currant and berry character. Medium to full body, soft tannins and a straightforward finish. Second wine of Brane. - James Suckling, Apr 2016 The 2015 Baron de Brane has one of the more flamboyant Margaux bouquets, boasting precocious red cherry, crushed strawberry and cedar aromas, all very cohesive and displaying good vigor. The fresh, tensile palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, offering dark cherries, bay leaf and cedar toward the persistent finish. This is much better than the bottle opened at the vertical a few months earlier. - Vinous, Jul 2019 A perfumy black tea note weaves around here, while the core of gently mulled cherry and red currant fruit unwinds slowly, letting additional alder and warm stone accents emerge. Shows a light iron echo on the finish. - Wine Spectator, 2018 |
