Domaine Ramonet’s Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet is among the most sought-after and rarified white wines in all of Burgundy, produced from a tiny parcel in this 3.68-hectare Grand Cru that sits at the northern boundary of Bâtard-Montrachet, between Bâtard-Montrachet to the south and Chevalier-Montrachet to the north, and which is often described as combining the richness of the former with the minerality and precision of the latter in a synthesis of genuine Grand Cru character. The Ramonet domaine, operating from its cellar in Chassagne-Montrachet, is one of the most celebrated and consistently outstanding white wine producers in Burgundy, with a philosophy of natural fermentation in older oak, extended lees ageing, minimal intervention and a deep respect for the individual character of each Grand Cru site that has produced wines of extraordinary ageing potential across five decades of production. The combination of Ramonet’s winemaking mastery and the Bienvenues-Bâtard’s exceptional terroir identity makes this one of the rarest and most important white wine acquisitions from the Côte de Beaune. The 2019 Burgundy white wine vintage was outstanding, producing wines of exceptional concentration, aromatic complexity and natural balance that place it among the finest white wine years of the past decade. The combination of the warm, ripe vintage’s fruit generosity and the structural depth of Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet’s clay and limestone Grand Cru soils should have delivered a wine of extraordinary breadth and mineral depth from this vintage. Ramonet’s extended lees ageing and restrained new oak philosophy will have allowed the site’s full character to develop without the distractions of excessive winemaking intervention, producing a wine whose complexity is rooted entirely in its terroir and vintage character. Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet appears so rarely on the open market that every acquisition opportunity is significant, regardless of vintage. The 2019, from one of the finest white Burgundy vintages of the past decade, is among the most important white wine acquisitions in this entire catalogue. |
