Domaine Henri Magnien is a long-established family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, with a history dating back to the early 20th century. Since 2009, Charles Magnien, the fourth generation of the family, has overseen the domaine, introducing a more refined and terroir-focused approach while preserving traditional Burgundian winemaking. Vineyard practices emphasise sustainable farming, low yields and careful fruit selection, producing wines that balance concentration with elegance. The estate's holdings include village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards such as Ruchottes-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin.

The 2021 vintage was one of the coolest and most challenging growing seasons in Burgundy in recent years. Spring frosts significantly reduced yields, while the cooler summer preserved freshness, bright acidity and moderate alcohol levels. Charles Magnien adapted his winemaking by reducing the proportion of new oak and shortening the élevage to preserve the purity and vibrancy of the vintage. The result is a classic, transparent expression of Gevrey-Chambertin with excellent aromatic lift and finesse. The magnum format offers even slower maturation and greater ageing potential than the standard bottle.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin is fresh, elegant and finely structured. Aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, red cherry and blueberry are complemented by notes of violets, forest floor, subtle spice and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and excellent precision. Rather than the richness of warmer vintages, the wine showcases purity of fruit, savoury complexity and a long mineral finish that is characteristic of the cooler 2021 season.
