Tasting Note :

La Croix de Brully is a small domaine in Chambolle-Musigny, one of the most fragrant and elegant of the Côte de Nuits’ celebrated Pinot Noir villages, producing wines that reflect the village’s defining characteristics: the combination of iron-rich, limestone-dominant soils and clay subsoil in the Chambolle vineyards that produces Pinot Noir of unusual floral perfume, silky tannin and mineral delicacy. The estate works with holdings within the Chambolle-Musigny appellation and vinifies with the kind of attention to site expression and minimal intervention that has characterised the best small-domaine production in the village over the past two decades. The magnum format underscores the seriousness with which the producer approaches this village-level wine.

Chambolle-Musigny is one of the most consistently beloved villages in Burgundy for collectors who value fragrance, finesse and mineral complexity over power and extraction. The village produces Pinot Noir of distinctive character from its limstone-dominant soils laced with the calcaire actif that gives Chambolle its particular mineral tension: wines that are pale in colour compared to Gevrey or Vosne-Romanée, but whose aromatic complexity, tannin finesse and mineral depth make them among the most intellectually engaging red Burgundies available. The 2022 vintage in Chambolle was warm, producing wines of greater aromatic generosity and earlier accessibility than the tightly wound 2021, though with the structural depth for medium-term cellaring in well-made examples.

A village-level Chambolle-Musigny in magnum from a committed small domaine offers collectors an accessible point of entry to one of Burgundy’s most sought-after villages in the larger format. Magnums of village Chambolle from quality-focused independent producers are genuinely rare in the market, and their relative scarcity combined with the village’s established desirability among Burgundy collectors at every level of engagement makes this an intelligent acquisition for those who drink their wines with five to eight years of cellaring. The 2022 vintage’s combination of generosity and structure makes this magnum appropriate for drinking or for ageing.

Pale ruby with a perfumed and delicate nose of red cherry, violet, rose petal, spice and the distinctive mineral chalk-and-iron thread that defines Chambolle-Musigny’s most characteristic Pinot Noir. Light to medium-bodied with silky, fine-grained tannins, elegant acidity and a long, floral, mineral finish of genuine Chambolle character. Best from 2026 through 2038.
