Domaine Paul Gros is a young Burgundy estate associated with the next generation of the Gros winemaking family of Vosne-Romanee. Paul, the son of Anne Gros and Jean-Paul Tollot, has established his own label in Burgundy, continuing the family's long-established connection to the premier vineyards of the Cote de Nuits while building an independent identity for his wines. The estate is small and emerging, with production volumes that reflect the limited scale of a new domaine finding its footing. Vosne-Romanee Aux Communes is a village-level lieu-dit within one of the Cote de Nuits' most prestigious appellations, at the southern boundary of the commune. While not a premier cru designation, a named lieu-dit at this level from a producer with documented Gros family connections carries meaningful provenance and terroir specificity. The 2022 Burgundy vintage was warm and generous, producing wines of ripe, expressive fruit character and relatively accessible tannin structures. The establishment of a new domaine by the next generation of one of Vosne-Romanee's great families is inherently of interest to Burgundy collectors. Paul's involvement with both his parents' Minervois project and the building of his own independent Burgundy domaine positions him as a transitional figure carrying family expertise forward while establishing his own voice. The Vosne-Romanee Aux Communes is an instructive early indicator of the estate's direction and ambition. Drink from 2025 to 2030. Pair with roast duck, mushroom-based preparations or soft cheese. Serve at 15 degrees in a broad glass. Clear ruby with a bright rim. The nose is clean and precise, with red cherry, rose petal, mineral earth and a faint new-oak cedar note from the 2022 vintage elevage. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good acidity and a clean, characterful finish with genuine Vosne-Romanee aromatic lift. A promising debut from an emerging address. |
