Tasting Note :

Domaine Fourrier is based in Gevrey-Chambertin and is among the Cote de Nuits' most admired small producers. Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the estate from his father, Jean-Claude, and has built an international reputation for wines of exceptional purity and transparency. The domaine's holdings are concentrated in Gevrey and Morey-Saint-Denis, making the Pommard Premier Cru Rugiens an unusual outlier that nonetheless reflects the same precise, low-intervention approach applied across the range.

The 'Vigne Comte de Chapelle' designation refers to the specific historical parcel within the Rugiens Premier Cru, which straddles the boundary between Rugiens-Hauts and Rugiens-Bas, one of Pommard's most prestigious sites. Rugiens is frequently cited as a candidate for Grand Cru promotion, its iron-rich soils yielding wines of exceptional structure and aromatic depth. As a 2023 en primeur release, the wine represents the most recent and youngest vintage available.

The 2023 Burgundy vintage was warm and generous, producing wines of ripe, expressive fruit character with somewhat softer tannins than the structured 2022. For Pommard, the vintage delivered wines with good mid-palate richness and a more approachable profile than the more structured releases of recent years. Fourrier's minimal-intervention approach should be well-suited to a warm vintage, allowing the terroir to speak through concentration rather than extraction.

Given the 2023 vintage's generous character, drinking from approximately 2028 is likely to be ideal; the wine will benefit from at least five years of cellaring to integrate its tannin and develop complexity. Pair with roasted game birds, beef rib or lamb with herbs when mature.

Deep ruby with purple highlights. The nose opens with ripe dark cherry, red plum, iron and a floral violet note typical of Rugiens. The palate is structured and medium-full bodied with ripe, well-defined tannins, good acidity and a mineral, persistent finish. Firmly built and clearly in need of cellar time.
